Books from Burnham and Hammond Collection on exhibit in Special Collections
A new exhibit in the Daley Library Special Collections Department, An Architect’s Library: Books from the Burnham and Hammond Collection, features books from the working library of the Chicago firm of Daniel Burnham, Jr., Hubert Burnham, and C. Herrick Hammond.
The exhibit displays some of the books in the 700-volume collection that the firm used for technical information and inspiration for building design and decoration. Some of the firm’s most famous Chicago buildings, such as the Carbide and Carbon Building (now the Hard Rock Hotel), are featured.
Ed Fishwick, librarian and volunteer at the UIC Library who has worked in the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries of the Art Institute of Chicago, curated the exhibit with Valerie Harris and Peggy Glowacki. The exhibit will be on display through May 2010. Information about visiting Special Collections is available online.
